Chess Tournament in honor of Women’s History Month!

Queens United is excited to announce that we are going to be hosting a special tournament, Sunday, March 19 in honor of Women’s History Month! This tournament will be on ChessKid and is open to all Queens United and Chicago students. There will be a Google Meet hosted by our ambassadors in which kids can join to participate in fun activities and a possible raffle in between the rounds of the tournament.

Playing Like a Girl - US Chess Women X Queens United

Join us on Thursday, September 29th from 6PM to 7:30PM Central Time for the “Chess Queens Empowerment Workshop”!

This workshop will connect chess girls to older female role models in chess in a fun night of chess play and mentorship! Members of the US Chess Women’s Girls Club and the Queens United Girls’ Club will come together and learn more about Jen Shahade’s book CHESS QUEENS, play a swiss-style tournament, and have the chance to learn from their games through commentary from experienced competitive chess players.

2022 CCF All-Girls Tournament

We are excited to collaborate with the Chicago Chess Foundation on the 2022 CCF All-Girls Tournament! The tournament is this Saturday, June 4th at Bateman Elementary from 10am-4pm for all K-8 girls. There will be fun games and lunch, in addition to chess analysis in-between games.

Meet FM/WIM Alisa Melekhina and NM Laura Smith in this virtual event with Queens United Chess! They will present about their experiences in chess and there will be time for a live audience Q&A at the end.

Virtual Meet and Greet: WFM Karen Hoshino

Meet WFM Karen Hoshino, the #1 ranked woman chess player in Japan, in this virtual event with Queens United Chess! She will discuss her experiences with chess - providing insight on her competitive chess playing in representing the Japan Chess Team and gaining the WFM (Woman Fide Master) title, as well as representing the Saint Louis University chess team. There will be an opportunity for audience questions at the end.

Queens United Summer K-8 Chess Tournament and Game Analysis

Join us on Saturday, August 14th for the Queens United Summer K-8 Chess Tournament from 9am-12pm CT and optional subsequent game analysis from 1pm-2:30pm CT! The tournament will feature prizes in three sections (Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced), as well as fun in-between round activities and commentary by Queens United Ambassadors. The event is open to all students in K-8 and will be run via ChessKid and Zoom.
