CPS Chess Queens
What is CPS Chess Queens?
The Chicago Public Schools, Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation, in collaboration with Queens United Chess, developed the CPS Chess Queens Initiative in Spring 2021. CPS Chess Queens is a year-round program intended to empower female chess leaders, foster an inclusive and engaging environment for girls, and expand the chess community. We will accomplish this by increasing engagement opportunities to females from diverse communities throughout the city and employing female high school students to serve as mentors and role models through chess-centered programs.

Part of CPS Chess Queens includes free introductory chess lessons which are led by female Queens United Ambassadors. These 45-minute-1 hour weekly introductory lessons are designed for elementary-aged students, and can be held in-person or virtually. Queens United Chess Ambassadors will engage students in a weekly lesson theme and set time for playing time at the end.

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Academic Chess provides students from diverse communities across the city with the opportunity to learn, play, and compete in chess at no cost. The students participate in after school chess clubs and compete in tournaments throughout the year including at the CPS Academic Chess play-offs and Championships, City of Chicago Championship, State and National tournaments.
